Medal V2

What Do You Think of the New Version 2 Medal :)? I apologize for it taking so long with it :(, anyways; I wanted to show you the medal before I added the Ribbon to it, although I am having a bit of a hard time tilting the medal on its side to show how thick it is (I am not sure exactly how to render it on its side like you wanted). But anyways I would love to hear your opinion about Version 2.0 of the Award :). Thanks and All the Best, --Mifter (talk) 18:57, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Nope, it's not what I'm looking for. It shouldn't include any element of the globe award in there. The awards are not supposed to match. What I need is an engraved gold medal. I provided the Jimbo medal as an example only. The medal I'm looking for is a gold medal with a world map engraved in it. The only words on the new medal should be "Wikipedia World Developer", engraved, wrapped, and centered along the inner bottom edge of the medal. Is all that something you can do? RE:RFA Nomination

Hello Mifter

First of all I would like to thank you very much for attempting to nominate me, and I am glad I have had such an affect on you like the one you stated. At the moment I am refining my edits so a coach would be happy to do exactly that with me, and hopefully one day I will be an Administrator but I need more time to refine my edits and generally build up a good rapport as the selection process is stringent. At the moment I am sadly going to decline because of the above and advice from two Admins I have gone to in search of coaching, but one day in the near-ish future I would love to be able to accept your nomination. Many thanks again. Yours, Police,Mad,Jack (talk · contribs) 14:27, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

AWB for editing

I noticed that you use AWB for editing an you say a few words about this tool tx Bodyarmor (talk) 11:59, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi there :), I would love to help you with AWB, but your question was kind of vague, if you could re-state your question so that its a bit clearer, I would appreciate it :). Anyways, here’s the best answer to your question as I currently interpret it :). I think that AWB is a very useful tool that can be used for many practical tasks on Wikipedia such as fixing spelling errors, repairing bad wiki links and subseting templates. AWB is currently limited to editors with over 500 mainspace (Article) edits, the reason for this is because the tool has a huge potential for vandalism and the 500 edit rule helps to prevent vandal use of the tool. I hope that answered your question, and if you have any more questions feel free to ask. All the Best, --Mifter (talk) 00:21, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks I did see the access controls on the AWB page and this makes a lot of sense. You have answered my question on how AWB is used. I will take a look at some more of the introductory material you note in your letter, some of this material I have seen and some I have not. Many thanks Bodyarmor (talk) 08:12, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

50 Metre penalty editing

Hi Can you please explain why you reverted my edit when I was making it correct so that it matches with The Laws of Australian Football....I have umpired for 5 years and have thorough understanding of the 50-metre penalty and I have read wrong information in the article 119.11.89.36 (talk) 13:30, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi there, Sorry about that, when I first saw your edit I thought that it was mere vandalism, and reverted it, but after taking a second look, I realize that I was mistaken, and as such I have removed the warning template from your talk page and undone my edits restoring your edits :). Thank you for bringing this to my attention, because unfortunately sometimes when I am fighting vandalism, I make mistakes, being that I am human like everyone else, I know that it is inevitable that I will but thank you for brining this to my attention so that I can fix the mistake :). Just a heads up

I thought you might like to know that the Awards Center page has been deleted, along with its newsletter.  :(

So, where do we go from here?

To new and even more interesting projects, of course!

As announced in the newsletter, I've been preparing to co-coordinate a large collaboration/competition called Around the World. It was going to be run at the Awards Center, but since that no longer exists, the collaboration will be hosted somewhere else.

Around the World will begin July 15th as planned - it's location will be announced soon.

It'll be a blast. In the competition, participants will be helping to develop over 200 pages (drafts, which will be moved to article space once they are ready), using advanced tools to edit every single one of them!

This is going to be interesting.

And the event shall have awards which are being created specifically for it as we speak!

If you would like me to keep you informed of this and other interesting collaborations I'll be working on and/or organizing in the future, please drop me a note on my talk page, and I'll be happy to keep you in the know.

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

The Transhumanist    21:47, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Re: June 2008

Please take a closer look at the edit I made to Hard Candy Promo Tour. The material I removed has little relevance in a section titled "Reviews and Reception sic". I pared down the Rolling Stone quote to the part that actually constituted a critical appraisal of the performance. 86.1.249.35 (talk) 22:07, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for informing me of that mistake, after taking a better look I do see that the other information is useless and should be removed. I have removed the notice from your talk page and I apologize for my mistake, unfortunately I sometimes make mistakes when I am fighting vandalism and for that I apologize. Once again thanks for telling me about my mistake and All the Best, --Mifter (talk) 22:11, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Which one do you like better?

Please let me know on my talk page.

Thank you.

The Transhumanist    21:40, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for volunteering

One of the things we're doing to prepare for the event is some rudimentary work on the page set itself - to give participants a better idea of what they will be helping to create.

On each of the country pages listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Lists of basic topics, there is a flag and a coat of arms image, next to the table of contents. Their heights are out of whack and they need to be matched up. Malinaccier is working from the beginning of the alphabet, and has gotten through the G's. I need you to start at the end of the alphabet and adjust the heights of the flags and coats of arms to match, until you meet him somewhere in the middle.

For example, adjust each pair that the heights don't match up, like this:

to match up like this:

They take fiddling with, but you'll get the hang of it fast.

Mal has a head start on you, so you better hurry.  :)

The Transhumanist    05:44, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

I did some spot checking, and it looks like the H's through the late S's haven't been done yet. I've done the I's. I've gone over the A's through G's, and fine tuned them (some were a couple pixels off). I'll check the T's through Z's. Please start at the H's, and I'll ask Julian to start at the other end. The Transhumanist    10:06, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Next task

At the top of the Geography section, each page says "x is: a ______". Almost all of them say "x is: a country". That was filled in by a template to save time when the pages were all created, and it's not true for all the pages. A few of these political entities aren't countries (such as dependencies, autonomous regions, etc.). Check each country and fix those. Also, countries made up of islands have their own article devoted to them, so they should be called "x is: an island country". Change those pages too.

Good luck.

Have fun.

The Transhumanist    20:59, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Hint: To save time see List of island countries, Dependent territory, etc. If you copy/paste these 2 pages to a sandbox, with some search/replace magic you can create links that go straight to the pages in the set you need to change. And you can use Linky on those links to open them all in separate tabs (in Firefox), and then cycle through the tabs rapidly by using Ctrl-W to close each tab when you are done with it (and the next tab will be instantly displayed before your eyes).

Juliancolton's task

Julian might need help on his task:

To provide examples for the participants to see what the pages they will be working on are supposed to look like when they are completed, there are about 20 pages we're trying to "finish" before the big collaboration starts:
List of basic Albania topicsList of basic Argentina topicsList of basic Australia topicsList of basic Canada topicsList of basic Ecuador topicsList of basic Egypt topicsList of basic France topicsList of basic Germany topicsList of basic Iceland topicsList of basic India topicsList of basic Indonesia topicsList of basic Iraq topicsList of basic Republic of Ireland topicsList of basic Italy topicsList of basic Isle of Man topicsList of basic Israel topicsList of basic Japan topicsList of basic Macau topicsList of basic Mexico topicsList of basic Russia topicsList of basic Taiwan topicsList of basic United Kingdom topicsList of basic United States topics
What I need you to do is make sure the culture section of each of these pages has image support, and add as many images as comfortably fit in that section. See List of basic Japan topics for an example. The images you select for the pages should be mainstream and/or interesting. Dull and boring is not what we want. Eye-catching and educational are what we're after.
Don't use copyrighted images. All the pics should be GFDL or public domain. You can find pics on relevant articles around Wikipedia, and on Wikipedia:Wikimedia Commons.
I look forward to seeing your improvements to these pages.
If you have any questions, please ask me on my talk page so the alert feature works. Thank you.
Good luck.
Have fun.

We're all working together to get this thing ready, so the various tasks don't "belong" to anybody per se, Julian just happens to be the one I posted the above task to. Feel free to jump in and help. He's got the right spirit, and that's exactly what he did on "your" task!  ;)

The Transhumanist    21:08, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

What is Around the World?

It's a collaboration using advanced wiki-tools. It is sponsored jointly by WikiProject Lists of basic topics and WikiProject Geography.

Using these advanced tools, we are building a profile for every country of the world. These drafts are listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Lists of basic topics.

These profiles summarize essential information on each country. They are "topic outlines", but at the same time they are so much more, because Wikipedia is a hypertextual environment. Most of the topics presented are linkified, which turns these pages into a sort of site map to material about each country on Wikipedia.

The profiles share a standard format. So rather than tediously working on a single country to complete it, each participant works on all 200+ political entities, completing a single data item or detail across all of the pages. For this they use advanced tools like WP:AWB, Linky, etc. It goes fast, and since others are doing this at the same time, it makes "the World" (the set of country profiles) feel like a beehive, and the participants are its bees.  :) The energy is contagious.

And since you are moving from country to country, the tasks make it feel like you are traveling all around the world, and you get to learn a little about every country as you do so. This approach also allows for greater efficiency, because by the time you've done 30 or so of a particular item, you've figured out how to finish it faster and more effectively (such as where to find the data or how to make adjustments), and this specialization speeds up development - but more importantly it reduces errors.

The tasks are varied, which adds even more variety to the project. Some tasks are look-ups-and-fill-ins, some are copy and paste, some are image hunts, some are maintenance adjustments, some are link fixing, some are blue-linking (creating an underlying redirect so a link turns blue), some are fact checking, etc.

Standing by to help are co-coordinators, who can lend a helping hand to participants, provide instruction and tips on how to use the tools, and help them find what they are looking for. Co-coordinators also use advanced tools to inspect the work of participants, and touch it up as needed, or if a task was done wrong throughout, point this out to the participant so he or she can make the necessary corrections.

Co-coordinators are working on the set of pages right now, to familiarize themselves with "the World" so they can help more effectively by the time the main event starts. But there's still lots of preparation left to be done, and we are looking for editors experienced in advanced wikitools who would like to become co-coordinators.

The Transhumanist    23:26, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Welcome aboard

You've been working on the set of pages as mentioned above. So guess what that makes you? Yep, you are a co-coordinator!  ;) The Transhumanist    04:19, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Problem with a bot removing coats of arms

While I was checking your work on matching up flag and coats of arms sizes on the country lists (thank you, by the way), I came across a problem that you should be aware of. A bot has been coming along and removing coats of arms images from pages in the set.

The bot has hit the following pages so far:

I've written a message to the bot's talk page, informing the bot operator of the problem.

See User talk:BJBot#Your bot is damaging some articles we are working on.

If you should run across any more images removed from the country pages, please contact the bot operator (check the history to see which bot did it), and contact me too, right away.

Thank you.

And keep up the good work.

Request further explenation

I see you are deleting my article because "it is very short and provides little or no context".

I am confused concerning the wiki publishing process. Is it the title or lack of content?

Maleitch (talk) 01:37, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi there, What "it is very short and provides little or no context" means is that the article lacks anything to tell exactly what what the subject of the article is (By that I mean the lack of content). Also, there is a page that gives information on how to write an article and what not to do when writing an article. If you have any further questions feel free to ask. I was in the process of adding content to the page, when I noticed your deletion message. Creating a wiki page for the first time I was attempting to investigate/resolve whatever violation I had committed and lost my content in the process. I would like that. I am mainly interested in translation. I speak several different languages and am fluent in German, Chinese, Russian, and several others. I have been translating German pages recently. I think I am going to stick with that as I have enjoyed it. If you could help me or give me any tips that would be greatly appreciated! Also, please take a look at the pages I have translated, and tell me what you think. If there is anything that I could improve on (which I am sure is a lot of areas), please tell me. I am open to any constructive criticism. I am having trouble creating my templates. For some reason they show up as a fricken link instead of the thing I want to show. That is the one problem I have run into so far, which seems minor compared to all of the problems I could be having =). Thank you again for stepping up and adopting me! Also, I have just reviewed your hook and approved it, your hook should now appear in the DYK section of the main page within the next day or so, you will receive a notice once your hook is being displayed on the main page. Hello Sir

  1. How did you created that status signal?
  2. And for clean up petrol can I select law enforcement articles? Can you show me one demo of cleanup because for me all articles look perfect
  3. Can you help me with my userpage its total mess? Suyogaerospacetalk to me! 08:17, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Hi Suyogaerospace, let me answer your questions it the order that you asked them :)
  • First off, you need to put
importScript('User:Misza13/statusChanger.js');

into your monobook.js

Then you need to refresh you cache and then at the top of your screen next to your log out button you should see three new buttons. The buttons will read: in, busy, out, those are what you use to change your status. Then you need to go to Special:Mypage/StatusTemplate and add the code for the three indicators. If you want you can copy the code from my template found here. Then after that's set and saved you should be done, from then on all you need to do is click on of the buttons to indicate your status.

  • Second, yes you can select law enforcement related article to cleanup :). I have found an example of a small cleanup that I requested a few months ago. If you look at these diffs, you can see that all the clean up was was to change a paragraph list to a billeted list using prose and to do some minor copy editing.
  • I'd be more than happy to help you with your userpage, that may take some time though, I'll start thinking of a design for it but if there anything specific that you want or a user's who's userpage you want your modeled after tell me so that I can make the page the way that you want :).

If you have any questions feel free to ask me :). All the Best, --Mifter (talk) 14:13, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

First off, Clean up patrol is an optional course you don't have to do it and many users have done just fine and they have never cleaned up an article ever, second, could you be a bit more clear with this? :Hello sir its also displaying a icon showing DYK ans rollback rights. I dont know which code to delete?" I need to know what your working on (Although I have a hunch it might be a header for your userpage) so that I can tell you what code to put where. In other news I have finished a first draft of a userpage for you, you can see it at User:Mifter/Sandbox. All the Best, --Mifter (talk) 14:54, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
